CURRENTLY
It's been some time since I posted. I just don't have many readers, but here goes.
There has been a lot of talk about more restrictive gun laws lately (again) due the what appears to be an increasing number of "mass murders" as well as accidental deaths from young children having access to guns. I don't know if there truly has been an increase, or if it seems so because of increased media coverage of such events.
The anti-gun crowd seems to have a never-ending supply of ideas aimed at circumventing the Second Amendment without actually depriving us of our right to bear arms. Some of the proposals target ammunition in various ways that would essentially make it so expensive no one could afford it (except of course for the criminals who would create a black market for it). Other ideas are for "smart guns" (guns that theorectically can only be fired by their owners) to be mandatory. For some gun owners (or would be gun owners), this is an appealing idea. Others see lots of problems with it, especially if it were mandatory. As technology evolves, it may become the norm; we'll see.

PLEASE DON'T
I'm listed as the EVC for Nebraska's first district in the various publications of the NRA and their web site. That stands for election volunteer coordinator. My responsibility is to help candidates and their campaign organizations coordinate the actions of volunteers wanting to help in their election efforts. I am not the person to listen to rants about the tactics of the NRA, the idiocy of anti-gunners, or the content of NRA publications.
I am happy to help those interested in volunteering their services to worthy candidates, or to answer legitimate questions related to this or any other NRA matters. At the very least, I hope I can forward your questions on to someone who might have the answers, or provide people with contact information that may be helpful.

UPCOMING ELECTIONS
I would be more than happy to provide assistance to anyone who gets my contact information through the NRA and seeks to help elect gun-friendly candidates in the upcoming election. I'm not sure at this time what roles might be available for you. I'm waiting to hear from the candidates' campaign organizations and the Nebraska Republican Party headquarters. If there are democratic candidates with positive NRA ratings, I would be happy to put you in touch with their organizations as well.

Upcoming Election
The NRA is endorsing Jeff Fortenbury for the 1st District Congressional race. Please, do your part by voting and encouraging your friends and family who can vote to cast their ballot accordingly. Our gun rights future rests in your hands!

Nebraska "Castle Doctirne" proposed by Senator Christensen
If you value the second amendment, there's a good chance you also believe in the people's right to defend themselves, using deadly force if necessary. Nebraska's constitution declares its citizens have the right to bear arms to defend themselves, their families, and their homes (property), and others. Yet, the courts have precendents requiring people to retreat, if possible, and to only use deadly force if in fear for their lives, serious bodily harm, sexual assault, or kidnapping. If you are out walking your dog, and a person (or persons) confront you and demand your wallet or other property, you could be subject to criminal charges should you respond by drawing a legally carried firearm, especially if you shoot the perpetrator or even fire a warning shot. You may be required to prove that you feared for you life and that you were unable to retreat. You could be charged with, assault, disturbing the peace, discharging a firearm within the city limits, and probably a number of other offenses. You could also find yourself the defendent in a civil suit brought about by the perpetrator (or family thereof) for causing serious injury or death.
Please, call or write your state legislators today and urge their support for LB889. It will provide safeguards against criminal charges or civil suits for simply exercising your right to self-defense.
Do it right now!
